My last islander activity is the first year symposium. For this project we dressed up and presented our project in the ballroom in the university center. I had already presented my project in class, so I didn’t have to present it at the symposium. All I had to do was stand there and present my project to anyone that stopped by.

I gained a lot from this project. I was able to learn a little more about what it meant to be a leader and ways in which I can improve this skill and implement it in the future. Not only that but I was able to also face my fear of doing presentations in front of people. Which is something I really struggled with in high school. From me presenting my poster at the symposium I was able to meet and have a conversation with some classmates that I have never talked to, although that’s not all I was also able to talk to a teacher I have never gotten the chance to have a conversation with. I got the chance to present my project to Dr. Huerta in doing so I was able to introduce myself to him for the first time this whole semester. So, in doing this project I was able to gain more knowledge on ways I can improve my desired skill and I was able to meet some new people that I have never meet before.

For this islander activity I checked out the library to see what all it has to offer. I looked around to see what books they had and opened up and read a few of them. Not only that but I also did some homework on the computers that were there.

In going to check out I was able to find out that the library has a lot to offer. For instance, there are two different levels to the library the first level is the quiet which is where students may go if they need a quiet place to study and the louder area upstairs where there are places such as the i-create lab. So, I was able to gain a quiet place to study and do homework in between classes. By going I was able to see just a few of the books they have to offer there. I even checked out some of the study rooms while I was there, just in case if I ever need to book one to get some studying done. Not only that but I found a place where I can go if my computer dies at school, and I need a computer to turn in an assignment.

In this islander activity I explored the University Center and all it has to offer. My favorite one has to be the gift store on the first floor of the University Center where they have a lot of cool islander gear. My second one would have to be the lucky panda located right across from the gift store.

By choose to explore the University Center I came across a couple of really good place where I could hang out and study with friends in between my classes. While exploring I ran across a couple of really good food vendors that were like lucky panda, chic-fil-a, a sushi spot and a place where they sell some pretty good burgers. Which comes in handy when I start to get hungry while I’m doing homework in the University Center. I was also able to checkout the islander gift shop that is located right across from the food vendors. This gave me access to some really cool islander merch like shorts, hats, hoodies, sweatpants, jackets, and even some islander school supplies. Which could come in handy if I ever leave mine at home. All of the items I listed can help show my islander pride by rocking some of these cool clothes while walking around school.
