My last islander activity is the first year symposium. For this project we dressed up and presented our project in the ballroom in the university center. I had already presented my project in class, so I didn’t have to present it at the symposium. All I had to do was stand there and present my project to anyone that stopped by.
I gained a lot from this project. I was able to learn a little more about what it meant to be a leader and ways in which I can improve this skill and implement it in the future. Not only that but I was able to also face my fear of doing presentations in front of people. Which is something I really struggled with in high school. From me presenting my poster at the symposium I was able to meet and have a conversation with some classmates that I have never talked to, although that’s not all I was also able to talk to a teacher I have never gotten the chance to have a conversation with. I got the chance to present my project to Dr. Huerta in doing so I was able to introduce myself to him for the first time this whole semester. So, in doing this project I was able to gain more knowledge on ways I can improve my desired skill and I was able to meet some new people that I have never meet before.
